I found this scripture last night, and I thought the imagery and symbolism were really cool:
3 Lo, achildren are an bheritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his creward.
5 aHappy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
(Psalms 127:3-5)
(Psalms 127:3-5)
I love that scripture! Not only are children very powerful influences for good, but they are a gift to us! I very very very much agree! After teaching at the After School program here, I have a testimony of how much a gift children are to us. They helped me remember how much God loves us and they are good examples.
ReplyDeleteThis is a central idea to me. Children are a heritage or inheritance and reward. Also, it ties into the covenant the Lord made with Abraham in relation to his posterity. Genesis 22:17 says "That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;"
ReplyDeleteNotice that the phrase about the gate of enemies is mentioned in both places. It seems that there is a relation to triumphing over enemies (ultimately, The Enemy?) and having children in one's quiver. I wonder where an investigation of that idea would lead?
Children are a wonderful heritage. I'm thinking at this point especially of my children.
I like the symbolism of arrows... you have to point them straight. :)
ReplyDeleteI have always loved this scripture, and believe it with all my heart.
Could this also mean that we are rewarding the Lord ourselves when we have children?
